Hello and welcome to the third edition of Transqual Tiger News. Tow Truck Pilot Program. The RTA in seeking to improve standards & quality assurance in the tow truck industry in NSW recognised that the implementation of a formal training structure was a priority. Part of the development of this program is to pilot the training and assessment of tow truck drivers from different areas and segments of the industry. Consistency of skills and knowledge for all drivers across the state will have a positive effect on existing worker in terms of their development and recognition of skills, and will also assist in improving the profile of the industry among the general public and for those considering this industry for employment or career progression.
Phase 1 of the program was conducted in 2009 with Transqual one of the principal RTO’s involved in the training and assessment, and the single RTO involved with Phase 2 testing some revised content in partnership with Department of Education. It is anticipated this tow truck driver training program will be mandatory in the coming years.
In line with current trends in training and assessment a targeted skill set for tow truck drivers was considered as the most appropriate method to introduce formal training within the industry, with the following units identified as core units: TLIF107C – Follow occupational health and safety proceduresTLIB7907A – Set up and secure a towing situationTLIC3507A – Manage the operation of a tow truckTLII207D – Apply customer service skills This training will be rolled across areas of NSW in October through to December, with results to be sent back to the RTA and TLI Skills Council.Dangerous Goods Awareness Goes Public Transqual will be holding public courses in Dangerous Goods Awareness course in Campbellfield Victoria.
